CM automatically uses the term 'Indefinite' when a new item (or version of an item) is proposed. So for example, if you create a new course that begins in Fall 2025, CM will enter 'Indefinite' as the end term.
When you propose a new version, for example, one that will start in Fall 2026, CM will automatically apply and end date to the previous version that ends the term before the new one will start to ensure don't overlap.
- A course that is initially created with a term of Fall 2025 - Indefinite
- A new version is proposed that will use a start term of Fall 2026
- When the new version is approved, it will reflect as Fall 2026 - Indefinite, and the previous version will now show Fall 2025 - Summer 2026
If you need to change the end date, you will need to have a field on your form to allow it. Most of the time, users prefer to allow CM to automatically apply the end terms as needed, but an Admin may need to adjust it in certain cases. To do so, you'll need to have a field for 'End Date' added to your form with the API label of dateEnd.
Most institutions who use an End Date field place it within an Admin Only panel so that they may control it only when needed, although you can place it wherever you like on the form. If you need an End Date field added to your form, reach out to our Support team to have it added for you.
