Revisions allow you as an admin to determine whether or not you want to allow revisions, and customize them to fit your institution's needs. There are three panels of settings available, with a preview appearing to the right.
- Allow Revisions For
- Customize Message for Creating a New Version
- Customize Message for Revising a Version
Revisions and Versions are often confused with each other. It may help to keep the following in mind when trying to determine which one to use:
| Revision | ||
| A revision is used when you need to make a modification to a current course, such as correcting a typo. For example, if you have a course that is currently active from Fall 2023-Summer 2024, and you find a typo with in the description, you would create a revision to correct the typo, and the course remains effective for the same dates. | ||
| Version | ||
| A new version is used when you are creating a course with new effective dates. For example, if you have a course that is currently active from Fall 2023-Summer 2024, and you need to establish a new effective date starting in Fall 2024, you would create a new version of the course. | ||
Allow Revisions For
The first setting allows you to determine if you will allow revisions, and for which items.
Checking any option will enable the Revision option for that item. If you elect to enable the setting for 'Past items', then only items that are in the past (meaning their effective date is not current, nor set in the future, and it is not the current, active item) will be able to have a revision.
When an option is enabled, and a user selects the option to Propose Changes - they will see a prompt asking if they would like to create a new version or a new revision based on this setting.
Customize Message for Creating a New Version
This setting allows you to modify the text that appears in the prompt for the user when they select the option to Propose Changes. The default setting will show only, 'Create a new version', but you can change the message by adding a title and descriptive text.
Customize Message for Revising a Version
Similar to the previous setting, this allows you to modify the text that appears in the prompt for the user when they select the option to Propose Changes. The default setting will show only, 'Create a new revision', but you can change the message by adding a title and descriptive text.
