The Option Settings found under the Admin Settings provide additional settings that can be used with Option Types.
Subject Codes
The Subject Codes setting contains three checkboxes that can be used to enable additional settings.
Validation
When Validation is enabled, additional options will appear for specifying the requirements for new Subject Codes entered on the form. If a Subject Code does not pass the outlined requirements, a validation error will appear on the form.
- Allow Letters
- Enables letters to be used (A-Z) when entering a Subject Code. By default, all letters may be used - but you can narrow this down by changing the drop-down menu to 'Custom' and checking the specific letters that may be used.
- Allow Numbers
- Enables numbers to be used (0-9) when entering a Subject Code. By default, all numbers may be used - but you can narrow this down by changing the drop-down menu to 'Custom' and checking the specific numbers that may be used.
- Character Limit
- Enables a min/max setting for the number of characters that may be used in a Subject Code. For example, if Subject Codes must always be a minimum of three and a max of five, you can select the values to enforce this requirement.
- Force Uppercase
- When enabled, alphabetic characters selected will be required to be entered in uppercase.
Link to Groups
When Link to Groups is enabled, a drop-down menu will appear for you to select a category. Once selected, the Subject Codes will have an option available titled 'Linked Group' in the creation option that can be used to link the Subject Code to the category.
For example, if Subject Codes should be linked to an associated Department (ACCT linked to Accounting), then the Department category would be selected. Once selected, the list of departments would then be available on the Subject Code to select as a Linked Group.
Governed Subject Code
When enabled, Governed Subject Code will prevent users from typing in an incorrect Subject Code and help to reduce errors. Users will only be able to select a Subject Code from the provided list, and any value keyed in that it is not an available option will provide a validation error.
If this option is not enabled, users will be able to key in Subject Codes that are not currently existing options, which would then be added to the Subject Codes list, and available for other users to select.
Learning Objectives
This setting is part of a previous method for adding additional language support. This setting has no options and can not be modified; and may be hidden from the system at a future date.
Learning Objective Tags
The Learning Objective Tags provides two additional settings for using tags:
- Allow Multiple Tags
- By default, only one tag can be applied at a time. If enabled, users will be able to select multiple tags within the field.
- Governed Tags
- If enabled, users will only be able to select options that the Admin has previously established in the Options. If not enabled, users will be able to type in a new tag that will then be added to the list of options for other users to select.
Date Dropdown Settings
The Date Dropdown setting will impact the way dates are listed under the Start Term for Course Sets. The setting provides a dropdown that allows you to structure the date by Term, Year, or Month.
Here are examples of how the date will appear based on each selection:
- Term
- Year
- Month
